Children and Chiro2024-08-28T16:29:22+00:00

Northcote Chiropractic is extremely child-friendly and welcoming to ‘little ones’. Our family room has a special elephant bed with the kids adore and there is plenty to keep them entertained while mum and dad are getting adjusted. We have changing facilities for your use too.

All our Chiropractors have completed extra training in paediatric care, and are very experienced in treating children of all ages. The techniques used for children include cranial and extremely gentle adjustments, we find that most children love to be adjusted.

“we find that most children love to be adjusted and really enjoy their visit.”

Why should babies be checked?

Birth can be a very challenging experience on a baby’s skull (cranium) and spine, which can result in spinal misalignment and high cranial tension. Chiropractic care aims to restore balance and ‘unwind’ tension to improve spinal and cranial function and remove interference to the nervous system (the main control system of the body).

“Chiropractic care is not aimed at ‘treating’ specific conditions as such, but rather restoring the body’s balance and natural ability to heal.”

Regular check-ups

It is important to check a babies spine to optimise nervous system development in reaching important development milestones. If your child is bum-shuffling or not crawling, it may be due to a reduced movement which can be helped by chiropractic. It is important that children are checked at each milestone or after any significant fall or bumps as this is what can cause imbalances within their little nervous system and bodies.

“Just like going to the dentist for a check-up, chiropractic checks your child’s spine for any misalignment or imbalance.”

The modern child and teenager

A forward head posture is on the rise in children due to the increased use of TV, social media and a sedentary lifestyle. This forward head posture places greater stress on the upper back and neck, which causes other postural changes and spinal problems. It is of vital importance that teenagers are checked to prevent problems that can continue into adulthood.

“Our Chiropractors will also check your child’s backpack and give postural advice.”

We are extremely pleased that further research is being recommended and carried out, as we believe Chiropractic offers a very effective approach to many health problems in children, reducing the need for drugs or other invasive treatments.

“My twin boys were born eight weeks premature. In their first year, they were constantly unwell – ear infections, respiratory infections, etc. I started bringing them into Northcote Chiropractic when they were about 12 months. Since I had had a great result with Northcote myself, I thought it was worth a try. Emma was so good with them! I know we are a bit of a circus walking in for an adjustment with 2 small toddlers. But, Emma can work around their wriggly not-always-cooperative little bodies. It’s amazing when they begin developing any sort of infection, Emma can usually feel it. She can feel the congestion near their ears/glands, or in their chest.

I continue to bring them in once a week (they are now 19 months). I feel that the chiropractic adjustments will help improve their immunity and work out any little bugs they seem to get.

I only wish I had started sooner. The boys like going to see Emma and happily jump in the buggy when I mention it’s time for a visit.”
