We are very excited about the tremendous results many children have achieved with chiropractic care. We are passionate about providing care to children and helping them grow and develop to their full potential.
The techniques we use for children at the Northcote Chiropractic Clinic are quite different to those used on adults and all adjustments are extremely gentle. We find that most children love to be adjusted. A main goal of ours is to provide an environment that is welcoming, friendly and enjoyable for children to come into, both as a patient themselves and when coming along with Mum or Dad for their appointments. We therefore provide toys and an area for children in reception and in the main treatment room. A play pen/ cot is also provided in the main treatment room for babies, allowing them to have the space to move and play so you as a parent do not need to be concerned for their comfort during your own consultation and treatment. A changing area and changing materials are also provided at the clinic.
Birth can be a very challenging experience for both Mum and baby. For example a baby's skull (cranium) and spine can experience considerable physical stress resulting in spinal misalignment and nervous system interference. Chiropractic care aims to restore balance to the body by correcting improper spinal and cranial function and removing interference to the nervous system (the main control system of the body). Chiropractic care is therefore not aimed at ‘treating’ specific conditions as such, but rather restoring the body’s balance and natural ability to heal. However due to the many improvements seen in children with specific health conditions, there is growing interest in the role of chiropractic in helping asthma, ear infections, bed wetting and colic as well as many other symptoms and conditions often reported to improve with chiropractic care. We are extremely pleased that further research is being recommended and carried out as we believe chiropractic offers a very effective approach to many health problems in children, reducing the need for drugs or other invasive treatments.
